Tampa, FL (April 26, 2022) – Visit Tampa Bay continues to set new benchmarks and post record-breaking numbers as it reached the halfway point of its 2022 fiscal year. For the first time in Hillsborough County’s history, the tourist development tax (TDT) for March, collected on hotel room nights in February, soared to $6,015,563 million and the hotel taxable revenue reached over $100 million.

According to STR, Inc., hotel occupancy for March came in strong at 85.7%. The report shows a 21.4% increase in comparison to March of 2021 and hotel revenue reached $120,774,673, with ADR averaging $176.36 and RevPAR at $151.22. This brings the total TDT for the first six months of the fiscal year to $26,512,783, a 22.7% overall increase.

“Tampa Bay remains ahead of the curve as we continue to lead in our competitive set,” says Santiago C. Corrada, President and CEO of Visit Tampa Bay. “We are seeing the results of the work of all our hospitality partners, plus several major conventions, Gasparilla season back to full levels and a major investment in advertising to promote leisure travel. Last month we saw our first $5 million month of collections and to reach $6 million one month later underlines the strength of the industry in Hillsborough County.”

The arrival of the new numbers is perfectly timed for National Travel and Tourism Week, Visit Tampa Bay will be honoring the Tampa Bay tourism community. The week will kick off with Tee Off for Tourism, a golf tournament presented by Visit Tampa Bay and the Hillsborough County Hotel Motel Association (HCHMA). Visit Tampa Bay will also give back to the community with its Tourism Gives Back campaign benefiting Feeding Tampa Bay. The celebration will conclude with the Annual Tourism Luncheon where the Bern Laxer Awards of Excellence will be presented to Tampa Bay’s very own tourism champions.
