VISIT TAMPA BAY AND ENCHROMA COLLABORATE TO UNLOCK A WORLD OF COLOR FOR VISITORS
Groundbreaking Colorblind Glasses Initiative Offers a World of Vibrancy and Inclusivity in Tampa Bay's Cultural Scene
Tampa, FL (October 9, 2023) – Beyond just perceiving color, people impacted by color blindness also want to experience the world. That’s why Tampa Bay, renowned for its vibrant art, authentic culture, and breathtaking landscapes, is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with EnChroma — pioneers in indoor and outdoor color vision technology. This initiative will offer EnChroma’s revolutionary colorblind glasses at select museums, assuring an inclusive experience for visitors with red-green color blindness.
Visit Tampa Bay’s innovative collaboration will transform art experiences for visitors with red-green color blindness in Tampa Bay by offering EnChroma's colorblind glasses at two prominent cultural institutions: the Tampa Museum of Art and The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts. And it promises to enrich the visual experience for colorblind individuals, opening new possibilities in art and color appreciation. Color blindness affects more than 350 million people worldwide, with 13 million in the United States alone. Approximately 8% of men and 0.5% of women can only see about 10% of the colors that most people see.
"Our mission has always been to make our destination accessible to all, and today, we are taking another monumental step towards achieving that goal,” said Santiago C. Corrada, President and CEO of Visit Tampa Bay. “With our partnership with EnChroma, we're turning the key to a world of color, inviting visitors with color blindness to see the beauty that surrounds them in Tampa Bay."
In addition, these specialized glasses can be rented from Visit Tampa Bay's Unlock Visitor Center, allowing individuals to discover or rediscover the destination’s vibrant shades and tones. This initiative not only ensures an inclusive experience for visitors but also highlights Tampa Bay's commitment to making art, culture, and scenic beauty accessible to all.
