Tampa Bay gears up for major upcoming summer conventions season

Tampa, FL (June 25, 2024) – As TDT collections for May surpass $6 million for the third consecutive year, Tampa Bay is on its way to another summer of meetings success with multiple citywide conventions scheduled over the next two months.  May figures, reflecting April collections, totaled $6,326,163, matching similarly robust performances during the same month in 2022 and 2023. The last three years’ TDT numbers for the same period reflect remarkable consistency and a nearly 100% increase from the county’s pre-COVID high for May in 2018.

Total TDT collections for this fiscal year stand at $46,007,863 as taxable hotel revenue for April came in at $105,480,854, showing a notable 6.1% increase over the previous record set in the same month of fiscal year 2022 and the second consecutive year of topping more than $100 million for the month. Total taxable hotel revenue for the year stands at $766,680,886, underscoring the region’s steadily strong tourism performance.

“With the impressive lineup of large conventions already booked in Hillsborough County this summer, Tampa Bay’s tourism industry continues to thrive, attracting the attention of even more meeting professionals seeking a world-class destination that’s not only welcoming, but truly authentic,” said Santiago C. Corrada, President and CEO of Visit Tampa Bay.

Hotel occupancy for May remained steady at 70%, with the average daily rate (ADR) reaching $161.69 and RevPAR (Revenue Per Available Room) coming in at $113.22. As Hillsborough County prepares to welcome significant group business, including Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. for their Grand Conclave, Destinations International’s Annual Convention, and the Florida Governor’s Conference on Tourism, Visit Tampa Bay is committed to creating a premier destination that is warm and welcoming for all visitors.

“Our dedicated marketing efforts in a number of key markets are helping to propel this exceptional destination, with its exhilarating attractions, world-class culinary experiences, and cultural treasures, to incredible heights” said Corrada. “And once convention-goers arrive and see all the area has to offer, it will become something even more powerful; with them telling everyone they know how amazing their visit to Tampa Bay was.”
