TEAM TAMPA BAY
Team Tampa Bay is aggressive when it comes to recruiting and hosting marquee events, conferences, conventions and meetings. The relationship among the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, Visit Tampa Bay, City of Tampa, Hillsborough County, partners and community leaders is one of the strongest in the tourism industry. As a result, we have the ability to offer organizations and associations a true one-stop-shop when it comes to their program needs.
Whether it’s the International Indian Film Festival, 2012 Republican National Convention, three Super Bowls or most recently the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship, Team Tampa Bay is driven to deliver first-class events and first-rate experiences.
For the first time since completion, the Tampa Riverwalk got to shine on the national stage during the College Football National Championship weekend. Completed last year, the Riverwalk has become the focal point of the city and the main form of transit between some of the city’s biggest destinations. The 2.5-mile walkway helped connect locals and visitors from the Tampa Convention Center, host of Fan Central, to the brand-new Waterworks Park and Ulele restaurant. Fans could easily access the Riverwalk from their hotels downtown or even take the TECO streetcar to within a few hundred feet of the walkway.
Tampa's waterfront Tampa Convention Center was one of the major hubs for the football-themed weekend. The hall hosted the massive Fan Central event which included full-sized football fields and goal posts plus various mini-games for all to participate in. Kids had the opportunity to learn from some players and coaches about proper technique during the open practice sessions. The Sail Pavilion and all the water-transit attractions were on full display for guests throughout the day. Even the Jose Gaspar pirate ship donned a special College Football Playoff structure on its deck. And we can’t forget to mention the Gaspar ship had company; the Yacht Village was constructed directly next to the Convention Center showcasing gorgeous vessels.
Walking down the Riverwalk from the Convention Center you will find a number of open areas available for all types of vendors, food trucks and carts to set up shop. Curtis Hixon Park welcomed more than 21,000 guests for special CFP performances by Usher, Flo Rida and other national artists. Curtis Hixon is home to a multitude of major festivals throughout the year such as the Gasparilla Music Festival, Tampa Bay Margarita Festival, and much more. Directly neighboring Curtis Hixon is the Tampa Museum of Art, the Glazer Children’s Museum, the Museum of Photographic Arts, and the Straz Center for Performing Arts. Each of these attractions draws guests from all over to admire unique, ever-changing art, science, and Broadway-level performances.
Just beyond Curtis Hixon Park along the Riverwalk you will encounter the stunning new Waterworks Park. The grounds are home to an amphitheater and large lawn space, a playground with water features, and unique local cuisine from the Columbia Restaurant Group.
