Director Wes Anderson hates describing his films. And why should he have to? Untangling the intricate and convoluted plots of his films is a large portion of what makes them enjoyable. The logline for his newest, The Phoenician Scheme, is simply “the story of a family and a family business.” Based on the trailer, it looks like Zsa-zsa Korda (Benicio Del Toro) is an arms dealer and aviation magnate who, after his latest nearly fatal plane crash, decides to bequest his estate to his only daughter, Liesl (Mia Threapleton), a nun — and in so doing, to disinherit his nine sons. And along with his estate comes an ambitious plan: to build a massive infrastructure scheme encompassing the entire nation (?) of Phoenicia. This plan appears to upset many people, some of whom are armed, all of whom are powerful.
