Non-stop route is latest between Europe and Florida’s Gulf coast hub
TAMPA (August 22, 2018) -- Travelers from across Europe and the Middle East have a new way to discovering the excitement, fun and sun of Florida’s Gulf coast. Delta Airlines, in partnership with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, announced on Wednesday plans for a new daily non-stop route to Tampa Bay from Amsterdam starting in the spring of 2019.
The Delta-flagged Boeing 767 extended range airliner will fly between Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) and Tampa International Airport (TPA). The new route puts millions of travelers from 80 communities across Europe and the Middle East within easy reach of Tampa Bay’s unique blend of family fun, arts and culture, and outdoor adventures.
“We are very excited to welcome this connection between our great destination and travelers from Amsterdam,” said Santiago C. Corrada, President and CEO of Visit Tampa Bay. “Tampa Bay continues to attract adventurous travelers looking for unique experiences here in the Sunshine State. We look forward to introducing a new group of visitors to our beautiful destination -- our great attractions, our creative cuisine, our craft beer, and our wonderful cultural experiences.”
The new flights from Amsterdam will begin May 22. Delta joins the growing roster of international flights from Europe. Norwegian Airlines will begin flying non-stop to TPA from London Gatwick on Oct. 31. In recent years, Tampa Bay has added other non-stop flights from Reykjavik (Iceland Air), Frankfurt (Lufthansa), and Zurich (Edelweiss). British Airways remains Tampa Bay’s legacy international carrier, arriving daily from London Gatwick, now with upgraded entertainment systems in World Traveller and World Traveller Plus classes.
