Looking for something unique and interesting to see over the next few weeks? Well, Tampa sure can offer just that. Lights on Tampa returns to Tampa’s downtown from Jan. 10 - Feb. 1, 2009! This neat display of public art showcases Tampa’s commitment to the arts, technology, and education. If culture and aesthetically pleasing event designs interest you, you’re in for a real treat over the next few weeks!
This biennial event puts the “spotlight” on Tampa with outdoor installations by major contemporary artists. The building in which I work in, the SunTrust building, has a very neat strobing display at night, a very cool sight to see!
Participating venues and artists include:
Ft. Brooke Parking garage: Freidrich Foerster & Sabine Weissinger of Casa Magica (Germany),
Tampa Convention Center: Chris Doyle (NY)
Cotanchobee Park: Will Pappenheimer (NY)
St. Pete Times Forum: Marina Zurkow (NY)
Platt and Franklin Streets: Carlton Ward, Jr. (FL)
The celebrated art program will certainly enhance the pedestrian experience, add vibrancy to Tampa’s downtown, and showcase Tampa as a fun, aesthetic, technologically innovative city. For more information on this “flashy” event, please visit www.lightsontampa.org.
