The 17th annual WaZoo beer festival, presented by JJ Taylor Distributing, is giving Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo a whole new name for its wildlife. The park will close early on Aug. 4 to transform into a brew-filled zoo.
Named a “Top 10 Beer Festival in America” by USA Today, WaZoo contains over 250 different beers and beverages from all over the world.
Lagers, porters, stouts, browns, ambers, wheats, ales, ciders, pilsners and draughts are only some of the brew-species WaZoo will house in their natural tap-itats.
The flowing festival will also feature delicious food from Bay area restaurants, live music presented by World of Beer and encounters with some Zoo-venturous guests. If you don’t have a taste for the tap, WaZoo also offers a wine garden, “Wines on the Wild Side.”
To make this event even hoppier, a panel of judges will sample beers to choose the best brew. Last year Swamphead Brewing was crowned WaZoo’s 2011 “Best of Show” winner, competing against more than 280 individual beers.
General admission tickets start at $50 and range to $90 for VIP members of the Beastly Beverage Club. Discounted designated driver tickets are also available. The event proceeds will benefit animal care and education programs at Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo. The festival starts at 7:30 p.m. and will be hop-ening until 10:30 p.m.
