The volleyball hotbed of Tampa recently completed its second tournament of the year. Teams faced off March 14th-15th for the Joseph Volleyball Molten Mizuno Pre-Qualifier. Ages 12-18 invaded the Tampa Convention Center for a chance to be crowned this year’s volleyball champion. Five matches were completed over the weekend, three on Saturday and two on Sunday. The focus continues into the Tampa United Volleyball Associations’ United Slam at the Tampa Convention Center from April 11-12. The event will showcase the talents of many top teams ages 12-18. The tournament will be played in two sessions each day, beginning at 8 am and 3 pm. For more information about the tournament click here.
All the momentum will lead up to December when for the first time in the history of the tournament, the 2009 NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship is headed to the Sunshine State. The Tampa Bay Sports Commission in partnership with the St. Pete Times Forum, the Tampa Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the University of South Florida, will host event (semifinals and finals) to crown the national champion.
