Hey music lovers, Travis back with some great Tampa Bay Entertainment options for you! If you're a fan of the orchestra, listen up!
Under the direction of Dr. William Wiedrich, Patel Conservatory students from 75 high schools in seven counties will perform with the Dublin Youth Orchestra from Dublin, Ireland, on Friday, Feb. 25, at 6:30p.m. in Ferguson Hall at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts.
Wiedrich has directed the PCYO for 12 years and also serves as the director of orchestral activities at the University of South Florida. Several of his former students play professionally and others study at prestigious music schools.
The PCYO, consisting of musicians ages seven to 20, has performed twice by invitation at Carnegie Hall in New York City, where they received standing ovations. Students audition each semester to participate in the four different orchestras and chamber ensembles in the PCYO program, which includes Concert Strings, String Sinfonia, Junior Philharmonic and Youth Symphony.
Here's some cool info about the Dublin folks - the non-profit 28-year-old Dublin Youth Orchestras consists of young musicians aged nine to 20 and is made up of four orchestras that perform annually at the National Concert Hall in Ireland and as other opportunities arise.
During the concert, musicians will have the opportunity to play side by side and under the direction of each orchestra’s conductors.
Regularly priced tickets to the PCYO/Dublin Youth Orchestra concert start at $15 and may be purchased by calling 813.229.STAR (7827) or 800.955.1045 outside Tampa Bay, in person at the Straz Center Ticket Office or online at www.strazcenter.org.
