Hello film lovers!
As the week begins we here at the Film Commission find ourselves catching up after the weekend and preparing for a very busy next couple of weeks.
One upcoming event that I am particularly excited about is the Tampa Film Network's next Meeting and Film Showcase on Friday, May 29th. The Tampa Film Network is the (self proclaimed) largest network of filmmakers, screenwriters, and actors in the Tampa Bay Area. I perused the website and it appears to be a very helpful tool to the local film community. Not only does the website promote the work of their members and advertise events coming to the area, but the members are instrumental in informing each other of job opportunities in Tampa Bay and answering each other's questions. It also appears that anyone who's interested in working in film is welcome to join, from the diehard film addicts to those who are just curious about the local film scene.
Every month the the network invites someone who works in the film industry to speak at the meeting, and following the presentation they show off the work of their members.
Why are we so excited about this event you wonder? That would be because this month's speaker is our own Lindsey Guthrie! If you're interested in checking it out, click here. If I've piqued your interest, from there you can check out the rest of the website as well!
In other news, the deadline for entries for the Independents' Film Festival is fast approaching! While the festival itself is not until November, to put yourself in the competition for "Best of the Fest", you must enter your film by MONDAY, JUNE 1ST! For more information on the festival and how to make a submission, click here.
Now for all of our younger readers, we have an announcement just for you! If you are between the ages of 14 and 18 and are interested in making films (or know a kid that is), then the Summer Camp Film School presented by the Sunscreen Film Festival is just for you! The camp runs from July 6- July 17, and the two week program costs $500. If you're interested, email me or Lindsey and we can provide you with the needed information.
