Greetings Tampa! Melissa here to tell you about the National Hispanic Scientist Award ceremony on Saturday, October 9th at 7 p.m. This award was developed ten years ago in 2001 as a way to recognize outstanding Hispanic scientists as well as promote a greater public understanding of science. Overall, they aim to motivate an interest in science for today’s youth.

What’s really cool is that the proceeds from the event help to fund MOSI’s YES! Team, which is a career and educational enrichment program designed for at risk youth. This year mark’s the 10th anniversary , so MOSI will also honor the Chief Executive and Director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Dr. Dan Arvizu, as the 2010 National Hispanic Scientist of the Year.

This event seems like it will not only be fun and enjoyable, but really help to promote a great cause. Keep checking back here to see what’s going on in Tampa!

That's all for now, but stay tuned in for things to do in Tampa Bay!
