Hey Tampa Bay... Julian here with a really exciting event: – Moffitt Cancer Center will host the third biennial Latinos y el cáncer Educational Symposium from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. October 23 in the Vincent A. Stabile Research Building, 12902 Magnolia Drive at USF. This free event will be conducted entirely in Spanish.
The educational symposium is designed to provide cancer education and resources to the local Hispanic community. The symposium will include short presentations on several types of cancer and other topics related to the disease. Attendees will have the opportunity to register in the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) to become potential bone marrow donors.
“The main goal of this symposium is to increase awareness among the Hispanic community on the importance of cancer prevention and research, and on the treatments available for common cancers,” said Dr. Melissa Alsina, of Moffitt’s Blood & Marrow Transplant Program. “The idea is to reach out to the Hispanic community in their language to help them learn about cancer and about how this disease is, in many cases, very treatable and even curable.”
Complimentary lunch will be provided and free parking will be available. Space is limited. To register, please call (813) 745-8701 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. More information is available at www.moffitt.org/español.
