Hi everyone!  Travis back with more great Tampa Bay area events for you all to enjoy.  At the Carrollwood Cultural Center in January, magic is around every corner.

Music fills the air, colors dress the walls, dancers float on stage and drama evokes emotion. The Center is honored to host an array of local talents from visual artists, instrumentalists, singers, dancers and theatre groups, as well as offer a host of classes.

2010 Session I Classes, through art, ceramics, dance, music and theatre you will gain a new appreciation for the arts – perhaps even discover a talent you never knew you had.

Sunday, Jan. 10, 3 p.m. - Jack And The Beanstalk, enjoy this classic tale about a boy named Jack who trades in his cow, Betsy, for magic beans.

This original musical comedy shows us the importance of not giving up. The Play’n Around Traveling Children’s Theatre shows are put to original music with singing, dancing and audience participation. Admission: $7 for members; $10 for non-members; FREE for children under 4.

Tuesday, Jan. 12, 10 a.m. - Music Notes, this is the third of five exciting lecture/demonstration highlighting the Florida Orchestra’s Master Works Repertoire 2009-2010. This lecture will explore Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Admission: $15 per discussion. Coffee and pastries will be served. Call (813) 960-1121 for details.

Friday, Jan. 15, 8 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 16, 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Jan. 17, 3 p.m. - The Legendary Bobby Darin, is the first in The Salerno Theatre Company’s new Kings of Swing Series that has been touring the State of Florida since 2008.

In an era of cool, Bobby Darin was the soundtrack. Darin was one of the most popular rock and roll teen idols of the late ‘50s, being one of the premier song stylists of the decade. His hits included Splish Splash, Dream Lover, Mack the Knife, and Beyond the Sea. The show stars Michael Mathews. Admission: $15 for members; $20 for non-members.

Friday, Jan. 22, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. - Artist  Reception for Peter Stilton, presented by the Hillsborough County Visual Arts Alliance. Peter Stilton is the Featured Gallery artist for January and his interpretative paintings reflect layers of historical and philosophical research.

Some of his honors include permanent collections of the Office of the Mayor of Paris (Hotel de Ville), Museum of Fine Arts (Springfield, MA), and Raymond James (Tampa), as well as a solo exhibition at La Sorbonne (The University of Paris). Admission: FREE!

Sunday, Jan. 24, 3 p.m. - The Shigeru Piano Series featuring pianist Leonidas Lipovetsky. Critically acclaimed for his artistry and flawless technique since his debut recital at age 12 in his native city of Montevideo, Uruguay, he has recorded for PBS TV, BBC in London, WFMT in Chicago and Radio Moscow in Russia. Mr. Lipovetsky taught piano at the Florida State University School of Music until his retirement after a 35-year tenure.

Mr. Lipovetsky will perform pieces by Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin and Schumann on the Carrollwood Cultural Center's Shigeru concert grand. Admission: $30 for members; $35 for non-members.

Friday, Jan. 29, 7:30 p.m. - Jazz with Jim - Jazz from the '60s, with Jim Burge and the Jazz Directions. Admission: $7 per person
 
And don’t forget, the Center's gallery is a living, growing, and constantly changing, display of creative talent of visual artists - both local and international. The Gallery Artist exhibit is FREE and open to the public Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. The featured gallery artist for Jan. 5 – Jan. 29 is Peter Stilton.
