If you have some time this afternoon, stop by the USF Recreation Center where an event called Hoops of Hope will be taking place. This event is a part national movement where participants shoot basketball free throws in an effort to help children orphaned by AIDS.
Hoops of Hope was started four years ago by Austin Gutwein who shot 2,057 free throws on World AIDS Day to represent the number of children who are orphaned daily from parents who die of AIDS. Oh, and did I mention that he was 10-year-old at the time? Since then, he has been traveling the country to inspire people to participate.
If you want to help support the cause, you can register at the door. The program will go on from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. tonight.
