Truth in 24, The Streak and Closing Night Wrap Party

The Gasparilla International Film Festival has had a wonderful beginning to this year's festival! Here's a quick reminder about some of this weekend's featured events.

The 'Audi Sport' racing team has become a dynasty, winning the 24 Hour Le Mans five straight years. Threatened by hometown favorite and spoiler, Team Peugeot, Truth in 24 chases the drama of the best racing team ever and shows how the team pulls out all the stops to stay on top. Filmed in the sleepy town of Le Mans, France, the documentary goes deep inside the Audi camp to showcase the high tech genius of the engineers and drivers as they fight to win in the world's most grueling racing event. What develops is one of the greatest races ever at Le Mans as the two camp go back and forth for 24 hours leaving the audience guessing until the end. The AUDI R10 race vehicle will be present and availalble for viewing at both screenings (one hour prior to the film's starting time).

In 34 years, one high school team has never lost. "The Streak" began in 1973, and the Eagles consecutive victories and went 468 matches without a defeat. Both of those numbers are national records for a high school team in any sport. In the suburbs of Tampa, Florida these are normal kids from normal families. The picture painted isn't sugar-coated. The group is flawed, and that's what helps make them perfect - perfect enough to go unbeaten for 34 years. In the film, we meet the typical coach's son who was born to be a star. We laugh at the vocal leader drenched in hubris. We relate to the silent hero who feels the pressure, the late bloomer who finds himself, and the gentle giant who learns to roar. Yet none of them would mean anything to us without the streak itself. And the streak wouldn't exist without Coach Russ Cozart, who is far from the norm.
Following the film screening, Coach Cozart will be presented with the Gasparilla Int'l Film Festival's 'Outstanding Acheivement Award'.
