Hello there sports enthusiasts! With Jones Jones working hard on the ACC Football Championship, Jerm is going to fill in for the remainder of the week and give you the skinny on whats goin down in the Tampa Bay Sports arena! Here goes!

Image Courtesy of the ACCWho says that all habits are bad! Especially when the habit is winning coach of the year awards! Congrats to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Head Coach Paul Johnson for winning his second consecutive coach of the year award voted on by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.

This marks the sixth time a Georgia Tech coach has received the award, and the third time this decade after George O'Leary won the award in 2000! These Yellow Jacket coaches are making a nasty habit of winning stuff this year, and will want to continue that this weekend I am sure!

Johnson claimed the award last year after the Yellow Jackets burst onto the scene and ran his prolific option-based offense in what I can only describe as a clinical faashion. They even managed to one-up themselves this year by winning the Coastal Division for the first time since 2006, claiming a spot in the league title game and vaulting into the top 10.

They kicked some tail this year on offense while on their way to a 10-2 overall record amongst some other pretty impressive accolades:

  • Led the ACC in scoring (35 points per game)
  • Total offense (440.5 ypg),
  • Rushing offense (305 ypg)
  • Pass efficiency (160.7 rating)
Coach Johnson and the Jackets had an impressive five starters make the All-ACC first team – including quarterback Josh Nesbitt, running back Jonathan Dwyer and receiver  Demaryius Thomas.

These guys efforts fueled Georgia Tech with a (10-2, 7-1) finish with the ACC's best overall and conference records of the season.

Add all of that up and it makes for a pretty mouth watering match-up with the Clemson Tigers this Saturday evening at Raymond James Stadium! I am looking forward to it and am confident it will be a showdown for the ages.

As far as Tampa Bay area events go, this will be a match-up for the ages, so log-on to www.TheRoadToTampaBay.com and get your tickets!
