Hey gang...Travis back with more Tampa Bay area events for you.  We have more news coming out of the University of South Florida.  From Miles Davis to Depeche Mode, Airto Moreira has recorded and toured with dozens of the world’s most popular musicians.

Moreira’s music lends itself well to many genres, but it’s his complex and contemporary Brazilian flavored beats that have solidified him as a legendary percussionist. The USF School of Music welcomes Moreira on March 24 and 25 as part of the College of The Arts sponsored Talk of The Arts series.

Don’t miss him March 25 as he discusses his musical life at 12pm in the Fine Arts Hall (FAH 101). This residency will conclude with a concert on March 25 at 8pm in USF’s Theater 2 in a concert featuring Moreira, the USF Percussion Ensemble, and the USF Jazz Ensemble I – two of the top ensembles at USF.

If you want more info, just visit www.arts.usf.edu or call the box office at 813-974-2323.

Here's some additional information about his visit - While in residence Airto Moreira will be teaching two masterclasses on March 24, Introduction to Hand Drumming (11am, Theatre 2), a class for music education students to get a lesson from a true master; and a masterclass in Brazilian percussion (3pm, Theatre 2). Both are open to the public to attend. Moreira will answer questions at the end of both sessions.

Moreira’s lecture, Reflections on a Musical Past (March 25, 12pm, FAH 101), will explain his musical background and offer highlights from his development as an artist (see bio below). In an appropriate finale to his residency, the Talk of The Arts concert (March 25, 8pm, Theatre 2) will feature Moreira’s original works.  School of Music faculty and student ensembles, the USF Percussion Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble 1, will perform with Moreira.

So, if you can take advantage of him being in the area, definitely do.  Enjoy...and keep checking back for more updates and great Tampa Bay entertainment options and other things to do in Tampa Bay.
