Reach for the stars | Famed astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson brings the universe down to earth during a talk at the Straz October 19.

Epic opening night | Florida Orchestra pulls out all the stops October 6 with its season opener, "Carmina Burana," Carl Orff's sprawling masterpiece that brings the orchestra together with the 150-member Master Chorale.

Fashion forward retrospective | Through November 12, Tampa Museum of Art features Susanne Bartsch: Art-a-Porter, dedicated to the couture designs and looks worn in the 1980s by New York City’s famed “Queen of the Night.” Also on display, Photorealism: 50 years of Hyperrealistic Painting through October 22.

Concerts | Disney on Ice brings “Frozen” to life at Amalie Arena, followed by an October filled with great music by the Scorpions and Megadeath, Bruno Mars, and Country superstars Faith Hill and Tim McGraw’s “Soul2Soul” tour. Spread out on the lawn at MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre at Fall shows by Green Day, Depeche Mode, Jack Johnson, and Florida-Georgia Line.

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS VS. TENNESSEE TITANSIn Tampa Bay, tailgate time kicks off September 17 when the Buccaneers take on the Chicago Bears at Raymond James Stadium. RayJay is also the home field for the American Athletic Conference’s University of South Florida Bulls, who will take on rivals from Illinois, Temple University, Houston and U. Mass. at home games in September and October. The atmosphere in Amalie Arena will be electric when the Tampa Bay Lightning take to the ice against the Florida Panthers in their first home game October 6. Bring your thunder sticks and make some noise!

HowlOScream 2017 NowhereThere's “Nowhere to Run” when Howl-O-Scream returns to Busch Gardens® Tampa Bay in October. For six weeks leading up to Halloween, the park transforms after dark into a haunted house filled with hair-raising horrors. Get a Recurring Nightmare pass for repeat visits -- if you dare.

For friendlier frights | For those who just can't leave the kiddies at home, try Creatures of the Night, an after-hours Halloween celebration that transforms Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo into an eerie adventure for the whole family.

On October 28, the Tampa Riverwalk Trick or Treat Event runs from 4 to 7 p.m. Children in costume can trick-or-treat among candy stations along the path and end with a screening of "Ghostbusters" in Water Works Park.
