Florida Orchestra Pops Series (8 p.m., Friday)
The Florida Orchestra’s Pops Series performs a tribute to George and Ira Gershwin at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts. The second half of the show will include some of the best-known pieces from the Gershwins’ opera “Porgy and Bess.” Tickets are $15 to $45.
Festa Italiana (11 a.m. Saturday & Sunday)
Generations of Italian immigrants, many of them from Sicily, helped make Tampa Bay one of the most diverse communities in Florida. Join them as they celebrate their history and culture during the annual festival in the streets of historic Ybor City. It's more than spaghetti and pizza. Admission is free.
KC & the Sunshine Band (6 p.m., Saturday)
Bring your boogie shoes to Busch Gardens Tampa. The classic 70's party band will perform when the park's inaugural Food & Wine Festival continues this weekend. Feel free to shake, shake, shake your booty and get down tonight. Country crooner Josh Turner takes the Gwazi stage on Sunday. The festival and concerts are included in park admission. Food and wine tastings are paid for individually.
America Loves Bacon Festival (1-7 p.m., Saturday)
Were truer words every spoken? Just the thought of all that bacon in one place has us as slack-jawed as Homer Simpson dreaming of doughnuts. (Hmm … bacon doughnuts …). The organizers assure us it’s not *all* about bacon. There’ll be music, too, when the festival takes over the Florida State Fairgrounds. We’ll be there for the bacon. Tickets are $25 at the gate.
Best of Tampa Bay (7-11 p.m., Saturday)
Tampa Bay's Straz Center for the Performing Arts hosts its 30th Best of Tampa Bay festival showcasing the region's top food, craft brews and music. Pick up your tickets for the day-long party along the Straz's section of the Tampa Riverwalk. While you’re there, stop in for a concert on String Theory’s Fin Harp sonic sculpture, 14 foot wires strung between the Riverwalk and the roof of the Straz. Tickets are $65.
