Tampa Bay's new Cross Bay Ferry, which had its maiden voyage Nov. 1, will offer free rides between Tampa and St. Petersburg on each third Sunday through April, starting Nov. 20. Frontier Communications is sponsoring the trips.
Frontier also is sponsoring free "Test the Water" rides to the public on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving (Nov. 21, 22, and 23) between St. Petersburg and Tampa.
Tickets are on sale. Full ferry service began, Nov. 4. A 7-day scheduled service will begin on November 28.
The ferry boat is a 98-foot “Provincetown IV” ferry from Boston that will be living the snowbird life -- skipping the Northeast's harsh winter for a milder one here in Tampa Bay. It will make 2 to 4 round-trip voyages between St. Petersburg and to the Tampa waterfront each day.
