Hello all, Intern Katy here! I hope you had a spectacular Independence Day weekend! Personally, I soaked up some sun in the afternoon and then enjoyed the great Tampa Bay events including the fireworks at Channelside Bay Plaza (which were fabulous, by the way).

First of all, I'd like to apologize for leaving off the link to register for the Red Lizard Films workshop for families who want to break into the TV and Film business. The link has been added to that post ("Hey there kids, wanna be in films? Or make them?") and I'm posting it here as well, just in case. So, if you'd like to register for the workshop or get more information on the program, click here.

Next up, I'd like to inform all those interested in Tampa Bay Film of the 2009 48 Hour Film Project Meet & Greet this Wednesday, July 8th. The meeting will take place from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Tucson's Southwest Grill at 13563 Icot Boulevard, Clearwater, Fl 33760. If you are an actor, director, camera person, writer, or anything involved with film making, come on out! This is a great opportunity to meet others like yourself and possibly get plugged into a Tampa Bay team. For more information on the 48 Hour Film project, coming the weekend of July 17th, and how to register, click here.

Also happening that weekend, the Gasparilla Film Festival will be screening "I Am From Titov Veles", yet another film from the prestigious 2009 Global Lens Film Series on July 18th. The film, by Teona Strugar Mitevska, hails from Macedonia and will play at the Home Theatre Gallery on Dale Mabry Hwy at 8pm Saturday, July 18. Tickets are $10 at the door, but members of the GIFF may attend free.

Here's a brief synopsis:

Set in the quaint but scarred town of Veles, three sisters long to escape the suffocating environment of their dying community. Burdened by memories of their late father, each chooses a different path. In this contemporary story of urban decay, director Teona Strugar Mitevska blends stark realism with memorable performances to create a vivid landscape of life and longing in post-communist Macedonia.

Sounds great right? Go check it out!

Just a few days after the GIFF screening, join The Education Channel for an evening of cinema. Catch the feature length documentary by local filmmakers Pete and Paul Guzzo, "Ghosts of Ybor".  Also on hand will be Cigar City Mafia author Scott Deitche, and noted Tampa historian Gary Mormino. This meeting will take place at the Education Channel, 703 N. Willow Ave., Tampa, FL 33606, on July 23, 2009 starting at 6:30 PM.

Finally, I just want to put the word out that NBC is having a casting call for a new reality show "The Marriage Ref", a comic reality series where celebrities and a relationship referee help squabbling couples make peace. Created by Jerry Seinfeld and produced by Oprah, this is relationship advice... with a comic twist. For more information and application information, click here.

There it is everyone, looks like it's going to be a very busy few weeks around here! Be sure to check the blog regularly to stay updated on the latest Tampa Bay film news!
