Experience Tampa Bay through Public Art
Tampa Bay is proud of its rich heritage and culture, and this pride is shown through Tampa's Public Art program. There are over 100 pieces in Tampa's Public Art collection, ranging from exterior and interior artwork, commissions, purchases, and gifts. Pieces of the collection can be found throughout Tampa's parks, community centers, streets and buildings.
While driving beautiful Bayshore Boulevard, visitors can see five pieces of art, including a steel sculpture titled Wave by Mary Ann Unger. One of the most well-known public art works, Parking at the Courthouse, is a 145-foot-long mosaic tile mural that captures the city's history. The mural can be found at the Tampa Police Department parking garage in downtown Tampa.
The mission of the Tampa Public Art Program is to promote the
involvement of artists in projects throughout the city, to enhance the physical environment, and celebrate Tampa's unique character and identity.
Public art enhances to the urban environment and improves the quality of life for both residents and visitors alike. Public art creates spaces and places that offer a sense of community, a space for contemplation, and serves as an invitation to visitors to experience the community in a unique and very personal way.
