An agreement was reached in April 1995 with Outback Steakhouse to become the title sponsor of the bowl until the year 2002, effectively changing the name of the game from the Hall of Fame Bowl to the Outback Bowl. This agreement was recently extended for the second time through the 2010 game making Outback the second longest title sponsorship in the history of college bowls.

The first Outback Steakhouse opened in Tampa, March 1988.  Since the opening, the Australian theme restaurant has experienced an explosion of action. Since its launch the restaurant from down under has surfaced as one of the country's hottest restaurant concepts.  There are approximately 900 Outback Restaurants to date in 48 states and 14 foreign countries.
