Hey Hey Tampa Bay, Melissa here. All aboard for the Tampa Bay History Center’s newest exhibition! From the Orange Blossom Special to High Speed Rail: Train Travel in Tampa Bay, which runs now through December!
This exhibition will focus primarily on the history of train and rail travel in Florida dating back to the 1830’s and 40’s and the legacies of Henry Plant, Henry Flagler, tourism and Tampa’s electric streetcar system.
History has always been a favorite subject of mine, so this looks extremely interesting to me. I think it’s important to understand our past to better grasp where we’re going so anyone interested in the light rail debate here in Tampa might want to check this exhibit out.
In honor of this exhibit, The Tampa Theatre will be hosting the Sunset Cinema Series on December 11th in Cotanchobee Park, located right next to the Tampa Bay History Center. The critically acclaimed The Polar Express will be the featured film.
What’s awesome is that this movie is open to the public and free, with gates opening at 4pm. The movie should start around 6pm.
Oh, and just a heads up: Due to an event at the St. Pete Times Forum that evening, parking fees will increase at surrounding lots after 5 p.m. Sunset Cinema attendees are strongly encouraged to arrive early. The St. Pete Times Forum North lot on the corner of Channelside Drive and Caesar Street will remain at the $5 rate. Attendees might also consider parking in Ybor City and riding the streetcar to the HSBC Station located directly across from Cotanchobee Park.
There are plenty of exciting things to do in Tampa and no better place to keep up on those things than here so don’t forget to always check with us for posts and updates about Tampa Bay Area events from me and the team.

Here's some additional information about Jeff Dunham and the amazing work he does - Comic Jeff Dunham continues to prove himself at the top in many realms as he was presented with a triple platinum award for his DVD sales of over 75,000 by Sony Music South Africa.
According to Nigel King, DVD Product Manager at Sony Music South Africa, this award means that Jeff has become the “top-selling international comedian on DVD in retail in South Africa.” The award was given to Dunham in the midst of his debut tour of South Africa, where he performed to eight sold out arenas for more than 30,000 people.
Dunham is already a DVD phenomenon who has sold six million copies of his four titles in America. His releases of “Spark of Insanity” and the holiday special in Canada, Great Britain, the Benelux countries, South Africa, Scandinavia and Australia have sold in excess of 200,000 copies, and his ringtones have racked up more than 300,000 in international sales.
The holiday special went to #1 on the Danish Entertainment Chart when it was released, while “Spark” hit #2 on the Dutch DVD charts and #5 on South African DVD charts — scoring against all DVD releases including best-selling movies. When “Spark” and the Christmas DVD were released in the U.K. they were the only titles by an American in the nation’s comedy Top 20.
The comedian and his crew of characters were the top-grossing international touring live comedy act in 2009, and Dunham is also the best-selling live comedian in North America for two years in a row. Forbes magazine recently featured him as the #1 Top-Earning Comedian in the publication’s listing of America’s leading stand-up comics, and earlier this year it named him to its Celebrity 100 roster of most powerful entertainers for the second year. On his return from South Africa, Dunham resumes his Identity Crisis tour, which continues to play venues seating 7,000 to 10,000 people some four nights a week.
On Nov. 2, Dutton publishes Dunham’s unique autobiography, All By My Selves: Walter, Peanut, Achmed, and Me, with an audio book he narrates hitting stores the same day via Image Entertainment. The book details Dunham’s rise to the top of the comedy game in his own words from his humble beginnings as a child entertainer in Dallas, Texas, with additional commentary from his hilarious suitcase posse of sidekicks.
